epidural yes or no for you?

Post by ChalyssaMuch on Fri May 23, 2008 11:21 pm

are you going to take it if you can??
I definately am.
i could never do natural..contractions will be painful enough while i still have them..so epidural is my friend I want the pain to be numbed as much and as soon as possible.
what are you going to do? natural birth? or..?

Nope. No epidural for me. It's not even an option at my hospital, we have something else I forget the name, but I'm not using any drugs whatsoever unless either I'm guna die or my baby's guna die.

I know I might scream for pain meds but I CAN DO THIS. It's what women were put on this earth to do, and I'm sure Eve (and the hundreds who came after her) didn't have epidurals, and here we are today. That's my only real "argument" on the topic, and that's what keeps me going.

I went into labour wanting to go 100% natural, then I broke down and wanted it, but the anasteolgist (can NOT spell lol) was in a surgery, and when he was free, I was too far. GAHHH!
Plus, I was on the pitocine the entire time... GAHHH x2!!!!

Laughing that made me laugh! At least you can still say you didn't get one, even if it wasn't 100% self chosen lol

I know im very very proud
but i can not imagine myself in labor for so long with no meds no way i cant do it.
My mom was in labor 2 1/2 days can you imagine if she hadnt had an epidural? and she says you dont feel ANYTHING with an epidural no contractions and you dont feel the pain of the pooping out a watermelon from your vagina either.
It may sound selfish to some of you.
But personally...i just cannot take that kind of pain.

I don't think it's selfish, but I do kinda see it as giving up. Not that that's a bad thing Smile Everyone has their own thresh hold of pain. I'm just going to make sure I am as distracted as possible so drugs aren't even on my mind. My hospital doesn't have an epidural ANYWAY, it's something I'm not familiar with so that just strengthens my desire to NOT have drugs.

It's not about guts because you aren't necessarily 'scared' of the pain, it just plain HURTS.

And holy crap does it ever! Oh well, everyone does through it..

unless of course you have a c-section then you most likely don't. But no decision is without some pain.

Okay I had both the spinal tap and epidural AMAZING i was so numb they had to spread my legs for me and everything..the bad news is when you are that numb, you cant push strong enough at all..and they turn it off most likely and when they did that..by the time she was really coming out i felt everything..
thank goodness she was so small cause i was tiny down there...
lol
anyhow it was still worth it when it came to missing out on all those contractions.

i had an emergency c section with arron and instead of a epi i got a spinal block which lasts much longer and i think is alot better it dont wear off as fast, with henry jr i had a repeat c section and had another spinal block. i would have had a vbac but that isnt an opition wit the hossy that i went to and reason being is because it could kill mother and child or just one it weakens the uterus they said other wise i would have had or at least tired to have one of those

Good for you Jami! A little activity after a c-section (Or anything really) is great to help recovery. I'm glad you took charge on that one! I'm sorry you couldn't have your VBAC though Sad Maybe a next time? Very Happy LOL

Oh and Alyssa you just go back to that website and make a new one, only you do the countdown for her first birthday instead. If that website won't let you do that one then try lilypie.com they have them!

Oh hehe you answered the question I asked about your doc in another thread! I understand, I've never had a real doctor that I was ever close to, I've just always saw whoever and gotten what I needed and that was that.

Im so afraid to have a natural birth but i have people telling me to try and avoid an epidural because of their experiences i have a really low pain tolerance and am afraid that it will hurt way to bad but im considering getting a spinal block instead of an epidural but i idk for sure HELP!

I wouldn't base my choices off of other people's successes or failures, I would just research as much as I could and make my own decision. If you listen to their failures then you're doing something out of fear and if you listen to their successes then you're just not being educated, and both can do more harm than good.

You'd be surprised what kind of pain you can tolerate when it comes down to it! Really..
I was soo prepared for a wonderful natural childbirth experience and did not get it. I ended up begging for the intrathecal (no epidural on Maui!) at 8cm and by 10cm it wore off and I had to push.. so it was useless for me. I made it through both stages of labor and birth without drugs with just a 2 hour nap in the middle, and looking back I realize that I could have done without it all together. Those two measly hours didn't mean anything in the big scheme of things. And honestly the best part about labor is that it DOES NOT LAST FOREVER. That's what I thought about the entire time, that this will be over by tonight, I will have my baby girl, and everything will have been worth it and awesome once she's here. I love you

I'm kind of rambling now but I hope that makes sense lol

As epidural is often short for epidural anesthesia, which cause a loss of sensation and a loss of pain. If the patient is suffering from uncontrollable pain while giving birth to a baby then in that case we use epidural.
