bottle-feeding where to start
what i mean is..
I plan to bottle feed..i am just not comfortable with the whole breast-feeding idea.
anyhow all i want to know is..
do hospitals supply formula while your in the hospital for mothers who wish to bottle-feed?
because my mom has told me to not buy any formula yet because when i was born i threw up everything and needed a special formula with soy...as some babies need a special formula..
so does anyone know anything about this?

The hospital will give you formula, and you can base her reaction to it off that to decide what kind you'll start buying. I heard it's best to just start off with a lactose-free kind right off the bat, because a lot of babies need it anyway.
((btw are you going to fix your signature? lol ))

Re: bottle-feeding where to start
Yeah just don't buy a ton because you may end up not being able to use it, like if she doesn't tolerate it well.
Try just asking around, call up some pediatricians and asking what you should try first, and then get a case or two of that. (And by case I just mean one cylindrical tub thingy.)
((And you used the wrong code for your sig so it's just showing the url text and all that lol. When you post a reply are you sure you have "Always attach signature" checked?))

Re: bottle-feeding where to start
well she is drinking similac cause wic supplies some which i wont use i'll save til she doesnt have to be fed this often..
anyway at walmart they sell the ready to use formula in quarts for 5.76 so i bought a few of those because making a bottle from scratch every 2 or 3 hours would be too much especially with all my pains and swelling i would die lol. thank god for vicodin and motrin.

I didn't take any pain meds afterwards, you wussy!
The ready to use is a waste unless it's only like 6 ounces or something because you gotta throw away what isn't eaten after so long. We have two of those tall cans left still and I'm dreading using it because it means I have to fill 4oz in about 10ish bottles and stick them in the fridge and pray she eats them all within 48 hours or we have to toss them. The powder is AWESOME, I love it. It's so easy and trust me it's easier than sitting waiting for the bottle to warm IMO. Making them from scratch is just fill bottle, pour powder, shake & feed!

yes the hospital will supply you with the formula while your there most hospitals will start them out on infamil lipil with iron and even give you some to take home my advice is to go sign up on WIC womans infants and childrens program it helps save alot of $$ on formula the kind a friend of mines kid was on cost 25.98 a can and with WIC they got 8 cans a month so that saved them 192.00 hope this helps also now if the baby can't handle that the lipil with iron and your going through wic they will tell you to get a wic 53 draft and have your doc fill it out for the special kind of formula your baby needs...

Re: bottle-feeding where to start
Thanks for all that info!! I need to get over to the WIC office, or wherever it is I need to go, and get back on it. I was on it in WA when we lived there but we only ever used one check. We do kinda need it though =\ Her formula is $30 bucks a freakin can for the bigger ones which last a little over a week, MAYBE two weeks. The little cans last barely a week - I won't even buy those anymore.
And yeah that's the formula they sent us home with too. Alyssa I'm pretty sure WIC has Riley's Similac.

lol
You can get those ready to use liquid cans, the "single serving" 8oz kinds (if Similac has those anyway) that's what we do and we just bring a couple bottles to put it in when we open it.
I'm sure Similac has some kinda ready to use liquid formula you could just pour into bottles to bring, but with this you run the risk of wasting it in case she doesn't want it in time. with the "single serving" cans you want until she's hungry to open them.
OR yeah you could bring bottles of water and take along some powder and wait until she's ready to eat then make it. Or you could just make them at home and take them with. (But then you run that wasting risk again.)

you can take bottles of water and just add the powder formula to it they have these things out now that are formual carriers that way you dont have to carry the whole can it will hold 3 servings of formula in it, or if u perfer you can get the liquid and just mix it with a little bit of water or get the lil bottles of liquid formula already fixed
